Summer is in full swing, and what better way to celebrate than gathering friends and family for a classic 4th of July bash? Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, poolside hangout, or cozy patio dinner, a little thoughtful prep goes a long way. Here are our favorite tips for creating a memorable red, white, and blue celebration — plus a crowd-pleasing recipe to fire up on the grill!

Set the Scene

Start with simple, festive décor. Think:

  • Pops of red, white, and blue with table linens, napkins, or throw pillows.
  • String lights or lanterns for cozy evening vibes.
  • Fresh flowers in mason jars for an easy, charming centerpiece.
  • A designated drink station with an ice bucket and fun garnishes — fresh berries and mint add a summer twist.

Keep It Comfortable

Make sure guests have plenty of shaded spots to escape the sun. Add outdoor rugs, comfy seating, and lightweight blankets for when the sun goes down. Keep bug spray and sunscreen handy so everyone can relax and enjoy.

Bring the Fun

Classic lawn games like cornhole, bocce ball, or giant Jenga are perfect for all ages. Add a festive playlist, and you’ve got a party that can roll into the night.

BBQ Recipe: Honey-Lime Grilled Chicken Skewers

No 4th of July get-together is complete without great food! This honey-lime grilled chicken is easy, delicious, and always a hit.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • Zest and juice of 2 limes
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro and lime wedges for garnish
  • Skewers (wooden skewers soaked in water for 30 mins)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, honey, lime zest and juice, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add chicken cubes, toss to coat, and marinate for at least 30 minutes (up to 4 hours) in the fridge.
  3. Thread the chicken onto skewers.
  4. Preheat the grill to medium-high. Grill skewers for about 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and lightly charred.
  5. Garnish with fresh cilantro and extra lime wedges. Serve with your favorite summer sides!
