  1. Matching Sets of Furniture – While furniture sets may seem like an easy way to furnish a space, they often lack personality and depth. Instead of buying everything from the same collection, mix materials, finishes, and styles to create a more curated, designer look.
  2. Drapery That Is Too Short & Overly Decorative Hardware – Curtains that stop at the window sill or just above the floor can make a space feel unfinished and lower the perceived ceiling height. Opt for floor-length or puddled drapes, and choose sleek, understated hardware instead of overly ornate finials.
  3. Stiff, Underfilled Pillows & Poorly Mixed Patterns – Flat, stiff pillows look uninviting and cheap. Upgrade to down or down-alternative inserts for a plush, designer feel. When mixing patterns, vary the scale—use a large-scale print, a solid or stripe, and a small-scale pattern for a balanced, high-end look.
  4. Mass-Produced Artwork with No Personality – Generic prints or mass-produced wall art can make a home feel impersonal. Instead, opt for original artwork, framed vintage pieces, or even a curated gallery wall with meaningful photographs or travel finds to add depth and uniqueness.
  5. Poor Lighting Choices – Relying solely on overhead lighting or using bright, harsh bulbs can make a space feel uninviting. Layer your lighting with a mix of floor lamps, table lamps, and sconces to create warmth and ambiance. Swap out builder-grade light fixtures for more stylish options that enhance your space’s aesthetic.
